This is a question that just came up.

Our troop was active in the early 1960 or so for some time, ceased to exist for a while and then was restarted 25-26 years ago. We have counted 3 Eagles from 1964 as our troop's first.

I was just asked about our orignal charter dates because our first Eagle was in 1956....

So looking into the Council website's Eagle listing, there is an Eagle listed from Post 223 in 1956 in addition to the guys from Troop 223 in 1964 and since.

So the question I have is what would have been the difference between the Post and a Troop in 1956 or thereabouts? And do we count this guy as one of ours or not?

Thank you in advance for educating me here!

Explorers was the program for older Scouts and the organization was called an Explorer Post. Venture Crews replaced Explorer Posts. Your charter org probably sponsored both orgaizations (Scout Troop & Explorer Post) at the time.

The Explorer Post would have been a separate unit. Explorers could earn their Eagle Rank either through the Boy Scout Method or the Exploring Method. I'll post what those were later this weekend.

I'm sure you can count him anyway you want. it would be interesting to see how NESA shows him..If you want to email or post his name, I'll look him up.

Thanks for all this. I don't think anyone still knew that we had had an Explorer Post at the church all that time ago.

Mrw:

Our troop (chartered in 1941) counts 114 Eagle Scouts from Troop and Post.
Basically, it is 114 Eagles from our Chartered Organization.

Anyone out there know someone who made Eagle in the 1920s? I have a scout who is looking to interview an Eagle from each decade. My last lead died a couple of months ago.

Oldest Eagle in the Greater Cleveland Council - earned the Eagle Award in 1930
Still extremely active
(Was the scoutmaster of our troop two SMs before me.)

You mean Tom Gray?

Now that you bring that up, since 1929 is 81 years ago, an Eagle from the 1920's would be in his late 90's in age. That's going to be difficult to find.

Thanks. May be as close as he can get. Do you think he would agree to help out by doing a phone interview?

My pleasure.
Mr. Gray is expecting the Scout's phone call.

MRW,
Is your original post about a Troop in Twinsburg? I was at a Eagle Court of Honor there for Jimmy M. on March 14. Great ceremony. I had the chance to work with Jimmy on staff at NYLT 2009. Just wondering.

Yes, that is our troop. I was there as well. (The one with an arm in a sling, if you noticed that...).

Jimmy was one of 9 Eagles in out troop last year. We should have a few more this year.

Mrw,
First, I'm sorry I did not see you(one in the sling), but I do hope you feel/get better soon.

Second, congratulations on the 9 Eagles from 2009. That speaks volumes for a strong troop with dedicated leaders, youth and adult. We had 5 Eagles in 2009, most in in one year in our troop. Our troop was formed or reformed in the mid 80's, long before my time as an adult leader. We have 38 Eagle Scouts. Maybe 2 this year.

Again hope you recover soon and good luck with your troop.
