Just saw this on the Innovation Engine:
Merit badge focused on the importance of inventing and problem solving in creating sustainable development. Scouts will learn to observe, identify problems and develop solutions around practical scouting needs and then to extend those skills to other inventing areas. Will reinforce skills in mathematics, science, engineering and technology.

Even though it has a negative rating from professional Scouters, it was nevertheless approved. It appears that it's not really about INVENTING, but more earth-love. I'm wondering who funded it, and what the merit badge book will say. Can't say I'm hopeful that it will be politically-neutral. :(

Heard a rumor today that the next badge after Robotics is to be: Fish Sciences.

While that would be GREAT for those of us in the NW, I'm wondering how that will work for those of you in, say, Arizona. Anyone else hear this?

Also, that Collections will absorb Stamps and Coins.

Many troops in AZ try to rotate a summer camp to CA every 3 or 4 years. All it takes is a few more cases of popcorn and a 10 hr trip. I've been to Camp Fiesta Island, San Diego twice.

By the way, there are fish in AZ, So while many of you are ice fishing this time of year, we are still applying sun screen.

There is a Sea Scout crew in Tucson.

I guess you couldn't be accused of adding to your own requirements then. Can you give yourself a partial? :P

Hmm, you sure about that? Sounds like y'all might able to doing some ice fishing very soon -- like, tomorrow.

Or, at the very least, easily earning the Frosty-The-Snowman MB.

Hey WW, I came to Flagstaff for Christmas, in a blizzard on I-17. You guys MUST be ice fishing by now, especially the last two days!

BSA made it EASY for me his year. Posted the info on line, and there weren't very many changes.

Everything is posted to the USSSP site already.

Did anyone else happen to see that Chess will be debuting as a new merit badge next month?

See the Merit Badges A - C forum. You've got to get up way before reveille to get the jump on these guys.

That's because we're on the East Coast. We get the info before National wakes up and then pull it down before the West Coast can see it.
