Do your troops hand out veteran pins to it's members?

I'm sure that you've seent the Star pins with a number on
them...and the round plastic background which depending on
color:
Gold = Cub Scouts
Green = Boy Scouts
Red = Venturing (used to be Exploring too)
Blue = Leader
I believe there are some other colors too.. Way back when I
was a cub/boy scout they were handed out..but I haven't seen
troops wearing them lately. I was just curious to see if they
are used or are they one of those items that will probably
dissappear after a while?
And when you are older you start and earn the 20 and 30, 40,
50, etc. year pins too but they are not for uniform wear...

They are service stars. They are given for each year of
service to what ever scout section you are assigned to. Adults
and scouts both.

There is also a Veteran Recognition you have to apply for. The
application askes for you to list all of your scouting
experience including that as a scout and a leader. I think you
need a at least 5 years to apply.

Then the Scouts issue a pin and cetificate.

Here is a link to the application.

Our troop has gotten away from handing those out... it seems
that the scouts weren't wearing them and didn't seem to care
if they got them. Is this a common theme in other troops?

W've gotten away from using them. They are very easy to lose
and end up getting caught on things all the time. We do
recognize tenure though and will provide a boy with a year pin
if requested.

perhaps we should give them the option as well! I'll propose
that to the Troop Committee!
