Camping Award

Do you have any experiences earning the Year Round Camping
Award?

Here is a link to the form from the Great Salt Lake Council:

http://www.gslc-bsa.org/forms/pdf/award ... _round.pdf

Contact your local council for their form, but I believe the
requirements are the same.

Bob I remember the Standard Camper Award. It was a felt patch
for a while then a leather Neckerchief Slide.

I completely forgot about that award....are you sure that
every counsel still has that? I haven't heard it mentioned in
our council for many years...

No it has been gone a long time. But it might be a good idea
to bring it back

Perhaps they should....I believe they still have the
summertime award for cub packs that have a set number of
activities per month? but most troops are year round... I
think you can get the attendance bars still? I don't see many
troops handing those out either.

Maybe instead of a slide they could make it a bolo... fewer
and fewer troops are wearing neckerchiefs. I have seen scout
camps that hand out bolos, they'll use one color for first
year, another color for second year and so on, however to earn
the bolo you must complete a set of requirements, kind of an
honor camper award.

I will do some checking and see if I can find any others that
still offer the award.

I know ours still does, my troop earned it for the first time
last year.
They have a very colorful patch, and a silver outlined one for
the 5th year your troop has achieved it, and a gold outlined
for the 10th year your troop achieves it.

It was tougher to get than I thought. Camp 10 months out of
12. The camping part was easy, scheduling was the tough thing.

Ill check around and see what I can find in other councils.

I know that they still have the honor patrol or Baden-Powell
Patrol Award which is not that hard to earn and many patrols
don't even bother.

Poof! As if it were magic...
http://www.meritbadge.com/awd/honorpatrol.htm

BTW, this is an excellent opportunity for some enthusiastic,
dedicated (old or new) Patrol Leader to get his patrol to
shape.

The program has been around a lot longer than any of us. And
though the requirements may change, the aims and methods of
Scouting ring true and remiain pure, to this day... Keep it as
simple as possible, keep it as pure as possible... And you'll
find, invariably, it just plain works better that way.

Wanna give a new Patrol Leader a road map? Offer him this;
tell him it's what his patrol needs to do.
